SYNOPSIS:
An under achieving young woman is desperate to keep her father's house in the family. She steals and works odd jobs to meet the demands of the bank. A young man dies in an accident and becomes a ghost, his dream is a house in Banana Island. She wants a soulmate and her house, he wants a house. God gives the ghost a chance at love and special powers.
THE GOOD:
The movie starts out okay, from the beginning you are filled with awe, a sense of anticipation of what is coming especially after watching the trailer. I would reserve my comments for other sections of this post, best to focus on the good, after all this is the "good section".
What stands out the most in this movie is cinematography, in fact it appears as though that was the primary focus. The angles of the shots and quality of the picture are all top notch. The actors were also fair, they succeeded (we believe) in passing across the message and emotions as dictated by the director (same person as the writer). Another thing we must commend is the location choices, this movie showcases Lagos beautifully, or at least the island, it had me thinking "So Falomo fit fine for film?" lol.
The costumes were great; they also had the decency to properly choreograph fight scenes. In my opinion this movie shows us we have barely scratched the surface of locations in Nigeria.
THE BAD:
Hmmm..... all hope was lost the day the writer finished this script and told himself it was a good movie. Is there anything wrong with the story? Nope, it is perfect for an American or British movie but certainly not Nigerian, the characterization and interpretation of roles are so unrealistic to Nigeria that some scenes literally make you cringe. Or who knows, maybe majority of us are not rich enough to know Banana Island behavior, but is this a Nigrian story? Certainly not.
The main focus was "Efizzy' not story telling, there were too many plot holes, too many to mention; but the most glaring is - At what point did the ghost and Ijeoma become friends? What changed?
THE VERDICT:
Completely out of touch and unrealistic. Story and cast are not strong enough for such a high budget film.
RATING:
Acting - 4/10
Cinematography - 7/10
Plot - 3/10
Final Rating: 4.7/10
